Johnny Barnette

SHELBY – Mr. Johnny M. Barnette, 79, of Pleasant Grove Church Rd., went to be with his Lord, Thurs., June 20, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Esley Newton and Jessie Eva Hamrick Barnette. He was a faithful member of Northside Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon and Sunday School Superintendant. Johnny was a man who started with very little in life, later developing the entrepreneurial mindset owning Barnette’s Beehive, with his son, Gary, since 1969, and Barnette’s Variety Store. His joy was to provide for his family, to share with others, and serve his Lord. Johnny was an avid gardener, sports fan, and loved to golf with his son.

PRECEDED: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Winfred Barnette and wife Thelma, and Bobby Barnette and wife Nelma.

SURVIVED: He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley Wallace Barnette, of the home; son, Gary Barnette and wife Vicky; two daughters, Denise Laughlin and husband Jerry, Kim Greene and husband Yuri, all of Shelby; sister, Pat Yound and husband Paul of Enrico, NC; granddaughter, Cloe Greene; and an adopted granddaughter, Heather Bridges Plummer, both of Shelby; three step-grandchildren, Spencer, Zach, and Sarah Laughlin.

SERVICES: Funeral services will be 4PM, Sunday, at Northside Baptist Church

VISITATION: The family will receive friends, Sunday, 2-4PM, at the church, and other times at the home of his daughter, Denise Laughlin, 3938-2 Pleasant Grove Church Rd., Shelby
