Larry Mierka, 81 of Shelby, NC and formerly of Whitmore Lake, MI, passed away on April 8, 2010
Born July 10, 1928 in Lincoln Park, MI, he was the youngest of six children born to Lawrence and Verna Jacobiak Mierka
Mr. Mierka served our country in the US Army and was stationed in Japan during World War II
In addition to proudly having a 46 year career on the Railroad, he enjoyed baseball, boating, bowling, hockey, and his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Eric) Bilow of Shelby; a son-in-law, William Marcum of Ann Arbor, Michigan; two granddaughters, Cristi (Jeff) Bostic of Gastonia, NC and Jill (Craig) Clemmer of Wilson, NC; three great-granddaughters; also two brothers; Robert Mierka of Florida, Charles Mierka of Michigan, and two sisters; Lois Gregory of Michigan and Virginia Shewchuck of Arizona
Besides his parents, he is pre-deceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Lorraine Mary (Matkowski) Mierka, daughter Kim Marie Mierka-Marcum, an infant daughter Renee, and one brother, Donald Mierka
Per Mr. Mierka's wishes, there are no services being planned. Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, Shelby, NC will be handling the cremation for the family.
