SHELBY- Mrs. Lela Goins Dedmon, 98, formerly of Westview Street,died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009 at Willow Ridge Nursing Home in Rutherfordton,N.C. She was born in Cleveland County to the late James Monroe Goins and Inor Lankford Goins. She was a member of Zoar Baptist Church and was a talented homemaker and flower gardener. Known for her excellent cooking skills, she continued to prepare legendary family breakfasts into her eighties.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Pinkney Dedmon, Sr., a daughter, Betty Dedmon Watson, a daughter-in-law, Betty Grill Dedmon, four sisters: Ivey Goins Davis, Pearl Goins Whitesides, Mamie Goins Owens, and Myrtle Goins; and six brothers: James Goins, Clarence Goins, Lawrence Goins, Doc Goins, Everett Goins, and Carl Goins, and numerous nieces and nephews. Survivors include her son, Albert Pinkney “Buddy” Dedmon, Jr. and wife Ruby Scruggs Dedmon; two grandsons, Richard A. Dedmon and wife, Paula H.Dedmon, and Mike Watson and Tracy Roberts; one granddaughter, Donna Watson, all of Shelby; son-in-law, Don Watson and wife, Gwen Williams Watson of Boiling Springs; two great-granddaughters, Laine Dedmon Amortegui and husband Nico of Charlotte and Leah Dedmon and fiancé, Thor Cheston of Washington, D.C. and one great-grandson, Jesse Watson of Shelby. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. Graveside Service: A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Cleveland Memorial Park. Officiated by: The Rev.
