Lewis Patrie

ASHVILLE: Lewis "Lew" E. Patrie, M.D. born 1928, died October 19, 2024 at age 96. Born in Albany, New York and grew up in Castleton in Hudson, NY. The majority of his career was spent serving the Indian Health Service in Arizona, South Dakota, Montana and Oklahoma with the later part of his career in mental health in Greensboro and Asheville. He retired on the cusp of the millennium and spent retirement working for Nuclear Peace, swimming and traveling with the love of his life, Jeanne Patrie. They moved to Givens Estates in 2015, where he has been cared for by his devoted daughter Lynn Patrie, since the passing of his wife in 2021.

He is survived by his children, Mark Patrie, Keith Prairie and Lynn Patrie; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service is tentatively planned for June 14, 2025, at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Asheville (UUCA). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to UUCA, Western North Carolina Physicians for Social Responsibility, Manna Food Bank or an organization of your choosing.
