SHELBY- Mrs. Margaret Smith Spencer, 89, of 401 N. Morgan St., died Saturday, May 24, 2008 at White Oak Manor of Shelby. A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Annie Bell Runyans Smith. She retired from Fasco after 18 years of service and managed the Lafayette Apartments for many years. Mrs. Spencer was also a member of Second Baptist Church.
PRECEDED IN DEATH: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard E. Spencer, Sr., a brother, Clarence T. Smith and wife, Claudia, a sister, Jeanette Lowery and husband, Bill, a niece, Suzy Smith, and brothers-in-law, John Berry Hamrick and Otha E. Collins.
SURVIVORS: She is survived by a son, Leonard “Gene” Spencer, Jr. and wife, Cathy, of Medaryville, Indiana; two sisters, Marie Collins and Dolores Hamrick, both of Shelby; four grandchildren, Cody, Teresa, and Dawn Spencer, and Joshua Spencer and wife, Christy; six great grandchildren; a niece, Tracye Morgan and husband, Donnie; nephews, John B. Hamrick, Jr. and wife, Martha Self Hamrick, and Eddie Collins and wife, Debra; great nieces, Andi Morgan, Katie Morgan, and Karen Hamrick; a great nephew, Timothy Hamrick; and a friend and caregiver, Joyce Kennedy.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends an hour before the service at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
FUNERAL: The funeral will be at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel.
BURIAL: Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
