SHELBY- Mrs. Marie Howell Wortman, 90, of 1176 Wyke Rd., Shelby, died Sunday, August 27, 2006 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
FUNERAL: The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel.
BURIAL: Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery
VISITATION: The family will receive friends an hour before the service at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
PERSONAL HISTORY: A native of Cleveland County, she was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Grover Howell, Sr. and was retired from Morgan Boggs. She was a faithful member of the Adult Women #3 Sunday School Class at Calvary Baptist Church. She resided at Shelby Manor on Wyke Rd. for the last three years and was voted Valentine Queen for 2006.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Hubert Wortman, her brothers Marion Howell, Dewey Howell, T.G. Howell, Jr. and Winfred Howell, and sisters, Louise Shull and Esther Hester McMurray.
SURVIVORS: She is survived by a son, Richard Wortman and wife, Oaka, of Burlington, NC; a daughter, Jane Smith Hill and husband, Jackie, of Wedowee, Alabama; two sisters, Ellen Giuseppone and husband, Toney, of Scottsdale, Arizona and Betty Jean Brackett of Cherryville, NC; a brother, Robert Howell of Shelby; three grandchildren, Pam Smith Murphree of Polkville, Jeff Smith of Wedowee, Alabama, and Angela Wortman Berrier of High Point; and nine great grandchildren.
