Marion Butler

March 1, 1926 — March 28, 2016

SHELBY-On March 28, 2016, Marion Louise Davis Butler, age 90, passed away peacefully at home in the presence of family and friends, and went home to be with her Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
Marion grew up on Big Springs Avenue in Forest City, and graduated from Cool Springs School in 1943. She met and married Max Butler while working at Collins Evans Department Store, and they began a married life together that lasted nearly 72 years. In 1948 they moved to west Shelby and raised two daughters. Marion was a loving wife and mother. She sewed many clothes for her daughters, and put family first. She was involved in the community and church as a devoted and energetic Girl Scout troop leader.
As an avid reader, she had a lifelong interest in history, nature, and the Bible. Bird-watching was a special interest, and she was always ready to give a bluebird house to all who shared her interest.
Many lives were enriched by her radiant smile, and by the encouraging words that she wrote in countless letters and cards to a wide range of friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ila Hill Davis and Thomas Marion Davis; her sister, Jane Ramsey of Connelly Springs; brother, Bill Davis of Shelby.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Max Butler; her brother Pete Davis and Betty of Morganton; two daughters, Phyllis Wortman and son-in-law John of Shelby, and Cecelia Mathis of Sparta; many nieces and nephews; caregivers who were with her throughout her illness; and special friends Grace and Joe Palmer.
