SHELBY-Marshall “Ted” Bowen, 94, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at Magnolia’s of Gaffney. A native of Cleveland County, he was born to the late Joseph and Mary Overstreet Bowen. He served his country in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church. He was a self employed plumber and an avid fisherman, but his greatest love was his garden and his prize tomatoes. The family wants to give a special thank you to Magnolia’s of Gaffney, Regency Hospice and especially his nurse Shannon Casey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eula McDowell Bowen; sisters, Lucy B. Smythe and Virginia B. Shelling; and brother, John Ray Bowen.
He is survived by his daughter, Teresa P. Hughey and husband Daryl of Gaffney; sister, Sarah B. King of Holden Beach; brother, Wm. Thomas Bowen of Shelby; grandchildren, Nicholas Hughey of Gaffney and Morgan Hughey of Charleston; and special niece, Nancy Terry and husband Jeff of Shelby.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors, officiated by the Rev. Roy T. Byers.
