SHELBY- Mrs. Martha Emery, 71, of 519 Webber St., died Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

FUNERAL: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2006 at Shelby New Bethel Church

BURIAL: Sunset Cemetery

LIE-IN-STATE: The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

VISITATION: from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 21, 2006 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home.

PERSONAL HISTORY: Born in Cleveland County to the late Clure and Mamie Powell Philbeck , she was employed at Maxway and was a life long member of Shelby New Bethel Church, where she was a member of the Singles Sunday School Class and the choir. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and long walks at Ocean Isle Beach. She was also a big fan of NASCAR racing, Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. She loved her family and sharing family time together.

PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: She was preceded in death by her parents.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by her husband, James Maynard “Bill” Emery of the home; two sons, Larry W. Emery and wife, Kay and Jimmy Emery and wife, Marilyn, all of Shelby; a sister, Virginia Champion and husband, Bob, of Shelby; two brothers, Cecil Philbeck and wife, Margia, of Shelby and Gene Philbeck and wife, Dee of Grover; five grandchildren, Matt Emery and wife, Amy, of Shelby, Megan Emery Lewis and husband Daniel, of Statesville, Chris Emery and wife, Elizabeth, Travis Emery and wife, Misty, and Andrew Emery and wife, Tiffany, all of Shelby; six great grandchildren, Parker Emery, Dyson Lewis, Issac Emery, Allison Emery, Ryan Emery and Bailey Emery, all of Shelby; special daughter-in-law, Shirley Emery and five special nieces and nephews.
