SHELBY- Mrs. Martha Hendrick Champion, 80, of 1430 Earl Rd., went to be with the lord Sunday, Dec. 9th, 2007, at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late George “G.P.” Pinkney and Birtie Hamrick Hendrick. Mrs. Champion was a faithful member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Barringer Sunday School class. She was also a member of the Ladies V.F.W. Auxiliary.
PRECEDED IN DEATH: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Loren Champion; daughter, Donna Champion; and ten brothers and sisters.
SURVIVORS: She is survived by her loving daughter, Mona McKee and her husband Randy of Fallston; brother, Charles Hendrick and his wife Dot of Shelby; grandchildren; Jamey Michael Cabaniss and his wife Kim of Grover, Michael Bryan Cabaniss II and fiancee Amanda Irving of Gastonia; step-grandchildren, Winston, Ian, and Avery McKee, all of Fallston; great grandchildren Hunter and Wyatt Cabaniss; and numerous nieces and nephews survive. The family would like to express a special thank you to Amy Hendrick, Brenda Bievens, and Charles and Dot Hendrick.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home.
FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11th at Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church
LIE-IN-STATE: 30 minutes prior to the service.
BURIAL: Will follow in the church cemetery.
