Mary Chapin

Kings Mountain- It is with deep sorrow that we announce that Mary Lois Chapin of Kings Mountian, North Carolina passed away February 6, 2024, at the age of 73, leaving behind her beloved husband, David Leonard Chapin, and children, Rachel Chapin Martinez (Erick Martinez), David Chapin (Fred Long), Samuel Collins (Heather Collins), Jeremy Chapin (Laura Chapin), Paul Chapin, Sarah J. Chapin, and Deborah Chapin (Andrew Orr) whom she loved deeply and with all her heart. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Emerald Colins, Winter Collins, Laya Chapin, Trace Chapin, Anastasia Chapin, Shane Chapin, Eva Chapin, and Leonardo Chapin who were all loved and a precious treasure to her.

Mary Lois Chapin was the daughter of John and Mary Secrest who preceded her in death. She is survived by her younger sister, Marti Mellentine (Mark Mellentine), and younger brother, Andy Secrest (Cheryl Secrest) as well as nephews, nieces, and cousins who were all loved and dear to her heart.

Mary’s love for the Word of God was evident to all who knew her and she prayed constantly for family and friends. As the great matriarch, she brought family together to enjoy the warmth of beautiful celebrations at every opportunity. Friends were more like family and she never met a stranger. Her beauty both inside and out touched every soul she knew.

Our gratefulness for her delightful spirit and ability to comfort with great compassion is difficult to fully express. We already miss her gentle touch, her loving heart, and her kind thoughtfulness. She loved the Scripture Joshua 1:9 and with the strength of a mighty tree seasoned through the storms of life, Mary was a woman of strength, courage, and grace who blessed lives in unforgettable ways.

Her favorite verse was Psalm 91:4, “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his weings shalt thou thrust: his truth shall by thy shield and buckler
