SHELBY:Mary Laura Phillips, born on December 31, 1943, in Morganton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2023, at her home in Shelby, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 79 years old.
Mary was the beloved daughter of the late H.K. Phillips and Cassie Inez Phillips. A devoted mother, she is survived by her three children: William A. Patterson II, Elizabeth Renee Patterson Cummings, and Laura Suzanne Patterson. She was a proud grandmother to Stephanie Brooke Patterson, Summer Annette Patterson, Spencer Cummings, Maggie Cummings, Shanetta Cummings, and Niko Patterson who loved her dearly. Mary was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Mariah Jade Keevill and Mason Keevill, who brought her immense joy.
Mary will be remembered for her kind and gentle nature, her unwavering love for her family, and her deep commitment to those she held dear. Her warmth, wisdom, and compassionate spirit touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family will hold a private service to honor Mary’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to a charity of your choice.
