Mary Wirtz Skinner of Shelby quietly entered the presence of her Savior on September 26, 2023, at the age of 65.
Mary was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, on September 20, 1958, to Ervin and Betty Wirtz. After graduating from Fond du Lac High School in 1977, her lifelong love of books and learning led her to Gateway Technical Institute where she majored in Library Science. She married Michael Skinner in 1982, and soon after they settled down to raise their family in central Ohio. They relocated to the Carolinas in 2013.
One of the greatest joys of Mary’s life was helping others. She volunteered with her church, a pregnancy center, children’s clubs, and more. She loved her grandsons, gardens, sewing, books, friends, and traveling. Mary was a giving person, and her generous spirit will be missed.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Holly (Andrew) Minion of Minneapolis, MN, and Tammy (Sean) Golden of Fort Lewis, WA; and by her grandsons, Ryan and Marcus Minion. She is also survived by her sister and brothers: Liz (Dan) Supernand, Tim (Cindy) Wirtz, and Dan Wirtz, as well as beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Michael William Skinner; parents, Ervin and Betty Wirtz; and two brothers, Joseph and Mark Wirtz.
A viewing will be held on September 30 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kings Mountain at 3pm followed by a service officiated by Pastor Jim Ogle at 4pm. A private family interment will take place on Sunday afternoon.
