Mary D. Pendleton

POLKVILLE- Mrs. Mary Dee Gettys Pendleton, 93, of 463 Oak Grove Clover Hill Church Rd., went home to be with the Lord on the day she celebrated her 93rd birthday, on Monday, January 26, 2009 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care in Valdese. A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Peter Summy Gettys and Maggie Etta Crowder Gettys. She was self-employed all of her life. Mrs. Pendleton was a lifelong member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, where she was also a former member of the choir, the United Methodist Women, and was a Sunday School teacher.

PRECEDED IN DEATH: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Paul Pendleton; a son, Dill Kay Pendleton; three brothers, three sisters; and a daughter-in-law, Kay Laughter Pendleton.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by three sons, Robert Joseph Pendleton of Polkville, Dale Rae Pendleton and wife, Ann, of Shelby, and the Rev. Keys Pendleton and wife, Becky, of Thomasville; a daughter, Gayla Pauline Hamby and husband, Wayne of Morganton; a loved sister, Blanche Self of Cherryville; a special sister-in-law, Anna Vee Larson of Polkville; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, and at other times at the home of Dale and Ann Pendleton, 3322 Polkville Rd., Shelby.

FUNERAL: The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church.

BURIAL: Burial will follow in Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
