Mary "Sue" Benton

GROVER- Mrs. Mary “Sue” Benton,79, of 1041 Bethlehem Church Rd., died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Katie Owens Putnam. She was a homemaker and was a member of Wallace Grove Baptist Church. She was a faithful Christian lady who lived for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

PRECEDED IN DEATH: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur M. Benton, her daughter, Jackie Sue Benton, her sisters, Madge Padgett, Janie Fowler, and Louise Putnam, and a brother, Clifford Putnam.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by three sons, Larry B. Benton and wife, Jeanie of Cherryville, Billy G. Benton and wife, Cindy, of Kings Mountain, and Gary D. Benton, and wife, Sandy, of Grover; two daughters, Diane Powell of Shelby and Tina Bowen and husband, Ricky, of Grover; two brothers, Clyde Ernest Putnam, Jr. of Shelby, and Charlie Putnam and wife, Ruth of Lawndale; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 27, 2008 from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

FUNERAL: The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel.

BURIAL: Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
