SHELBY- Mrs. Maxine Bessie Raynor, 87, of 1404 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, died Sunday, March 25, 2007 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center. A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Blanche Cabaniss and was a graduate of Gardner Webb University (formerly Gardner Webb College). While she managed a farm and raised her children, she was Secretary of Superintendent of Cleveland County Schools and later was a cost accountant for Cleveland County Schools. Mrs. Raynor was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Zoe Lutz Circle and the WMU. In addition, she was a charter member of the Shelby Rose Society and volunteered for the Red Cross.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Raynor.
SURVIVORS: She is survived by two sons, Randy Raynor and wife, Linda, of Shelby and Don Raynor and wife, Linda of Moneta, VA; four grandchildren, Annette Willcox and husband, Justin, of High Point, NC, Jason Raynor and wife, Sharon, of Shelby, John M. Raynor and wife, Debbie, of Wallingford, CT and Jeffrey Raynor and wife, Dana, of Charlottesville, VA; seven great grandchildren, Tyler Willcox, Alyson Willcox, Lydia Raynor, Jacob Raynor, Shelby Raynor, Gracie Raynor and Chloe Raynor.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 27, 2007 from to 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
FUNERAL: The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at Zion Baptist Church.
LIE-IN-STATE: The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
BURIAL: Interment will follow in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Robert Raynor of Covington, GA.
