SHELBY- Mrs. Melinda McDaniel York, 47, of 2109 Robin Place, went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at home. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Marion “Barney” McDaniel and Christine Bolton McDaniel. Melinda graduated from Isothermal Community College with AAS degrees in Mechanical Drafting and Design, and Plastics Engineering, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, with a Bachelors degree in Engineering Technology, and Ball State University in Indiana, with a Masters in Career and Technical Education. She truly loved teaching and thought of it as a ministry. All of her students were special to her and she could see the potential in all of them. She taught technology at Crest Middle School from 2000 to 2006.
Melinda was an active member of Abundant Life Church of God for more than 20 years, where she sang with the praise team, acted as church secretary, and helped with various ministries, such as children’s church and the youth dept.
Melinda and her husband were also devoted foster parents to 7 foster children during their 20 years together.
SURVIVORS: She is survived by a loving husband of 20 years, Hubert “Dean” York, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Ashley York Barton and Aaron, of the home; a sister and her husband, Darla and Enoch Shepherd, of Shelby; two brothers, Wayne McDaniel and wife, Diana, of Shelby and David McDaniel, of Cherryville; a grandchild, Alexis Barton of the home; a very special sister-in-law and her husband, Judy and Ron Denton, of Morganton, 12 beloved nieces and nephews, and 8 great nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends an hour before the service on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
FUNERAL: The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Clay-Barnette Chapel.
BURIAL: Private family burial will be held at Sunset Cemetery.
