SHELBY: Norma Jean Martin, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, in Cleveland County, the same place where she was born on October 1, 1946. She was 78 years old.
Norma Jean lived a life full of love and warmth, always bringing joy to those around her. She never missed her favorite soap operas and cherished spending time watching the Atlanta Braves play. Above all, she shared a special bond with her great-granddaughter, Mae Mae, whom she adored deeply.
Norma Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Frances Thrift; her husband, Danny Martin; her son, Tony Goins; her grandsons, Robbie Weeks and Christopher Goins; four sisters; and a brother.
She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory: her daughters, Tammie Gantt, Tonda Weeks, and Dana Agnew and her husband Earl; her sister, Vicky Pruitt; her brother, Steve Thrift; and her grandchildren, Michael Gantt, Nikki Gantt, Davie Weeks, Bobby Weeks, Daniel Weeks, Brandon Weeks, Amberly Martin, Asiah Poston, Sean Young Jr., and Brandi Goins. Norma Jean was also blessed with 20 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and her special dog, Rosie, who was always by her side.
Her family invites friends and loved ones to join them for a Gathering of Friends to celebrate Norma Jean's life on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
Norma Jean Martin's kindness, laughter, and unwavering love will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to know her. May she rest in peace.
