Ollie Edna Cook

August 1, 1918 — January 20, 2014

SHELBY- Ollie McCurry Cook, 95, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Cleveland county, she was born August 1, 1918, daughter of the late Ed and Ellie McCurry. Ollie was a member of Westview Baptist Church and a former member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was employed at Shelby Mill and J. P. Stevens. After her retirement, she enjoyed staying active and working part time, until the age of 85, at the Cleveland County Girls Club and in the Grandparent Program at Graham School and Marion School.

PRECEDED: In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, George Cook who passed away in 1978; two brothers, Jess McCurry and wife June, Jim McCurry and wife May; one sister, Mary Lee Parker and husband Alvin; one brother-in-law, Sam Talent; and former daughter-in-law, Phylis Willis Cook.

SURVIVED: She is survived by two sons, Harold Cook, of the home, Gene Cook and wife Becky of Shelby; one devoted sister, Mozelle Talent of Lawndale; four treasured grandchildren, Kyle Cook and wife Jennifer, Debbie Kelley, Kristi Cook, all of Shelby, and Warren Cook of Charlotte; one great-grandchild, Cy Cook of Shelby. In addition to her family, she is survived by many special nieces and nephews, her friends at Shelby Manor, her church family, and the community all will cherish her memory. The family wished to express their gratitude to the staff at Hospice at Wendover for the care, attention, and love they expressed to Ollie.

SERVICES: A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Thursday at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends 12:30-2 pm the day of the service at the funeral home and other times at her home on Charles Road.

BURIAL: Burial will immediately follow in Cleveland Memorial Park

MEMORIALS: Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
