SHELBY- Rev. Lewis Alexander Howard, 90, formerly of N. Oak Drive, went to be with The Lord Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Pender County, NC he was a son of the late Amos Howard and Eula Batson Howard. He attended Gardner-Webb College and graduated from Southeastern Seminary at Wake Forest. Rev. Howard served as a Baptist Minister for 38 years in Franklin, Wade, Concord, and Wilmington, before retiring as Associate Pastor of Eastside Baptist Church in Shelby.
PRECEDED IN DEATH: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorcus Melton Howard, his brothers, Elwood, Clifton and Guy W. Howard, and a sister, Sally Durner.
SURVIVORS: He is survived by his daughter, Ruby Queen of Shelby; two sisters, Vera Howard of Hampstead, and Rosa Lee Norris and husband, Archie of Chelsea, Alabama; a granddaughter, Carolyn Ivester and husband, James, of Lawndale; and three great grandchildren.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2008 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Ruby Queen, 1201-A North Gate Dr., Shelby.
FUNERAL: The funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2008 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel.
BURIAL: Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
