Richard Mcswain

June 12, 1941 — February 25, 2023

SHELBY: Richard McSwain, 81, died Saturday, February 25, 2023. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Everette and Lula Wiggins McSwain. Richard served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and he was a dedicated member of Bethel Baptist Church. He retired as a Veteran’s Representative for the N.C. Employment Security Commission, and was active with Gideon’s International and all local veteran services that were held in Cleveland County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Lee Causby McSwain. He is survived by his son, Shane McSwain and wife Jennifer of Chapel Hill; daughter, Leslie McSwain of Shelby; brothers, Randy McSwain and wife Sarah and Roger McSwain and wife Janet, both of Shelby; and grandchildren, Adrian, Amiya, Josie and Tess McSwain. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Tim Sims officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, in the church. Burial will military honors will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
