ROBERT ADDINGTON SR.

SHELBY- Robert Addington Sr., died Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at Carillon Assisted Living in Shelby.

He was born in Cherokee County, South Carolina, to the late Ernest and Juanita Gregory Addington.

In his younger days he was active at Bethel Baptist including the bus ministry, coaching basketball and serving as a deacon. He then transferred his membership to New Hope Baptist where he was active as well.

He loved music and dancing, but most of all was a loving husband, father and grandfather where family came first.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff that helped with Hospice of Cleveland County and the caregivers of Carillon Garden Unit

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joy Moss Addington; brother, Tony; and sisters, Marion and Judy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Ponder Addington, of the home; sons, Robert Addington Jr. and wife Nicole of Denver, and Mark Addington of Shelby; daughters, Susan Addington McIntyre and husband Stacy of Polkville, and Karen Addington Kitchens and husband Fred of Homer, Georgia; bonus daughters, Terrie Dycus Ellis and husband Chris of Shelby, and Sherrie Dycus Ledbetter and husband Shane of Shelby; brother, Ernest Addington and wife Diane of Boiling Springs; many grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

The family will speak to friends after the service.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, with Rev. Sally Queen and Rev. Randy Blanton officiating.

A private burial will be held at New Hope Baptist Church.

The family request no flowers, but instead donations to Aldersgate UMC Preschool Scholarship Fund, 1207 W. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, NC 28152.
