Robert Franklin Spangler

March 15, 1918 — February 6, 2007

SHELBY- Mr. Robert Franklin Spangler, 88, of 532 W. Sumter St., died Tuesday, February 6, 2007. He was a native of Shelby, and son to the late Bailous and Lula Belle Dorsey Spangler. He was the Manager of Lutz-Yelton Coal Co. retiring after 52 years of service. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Shelby for many years.

PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: In addition to her parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Christine Ariail Spangler, his brother, J.B. Spangler, and a sister, Marjorie Rice.

SURVIVORS: He is survived by his daughter, Marjorie S. Porter and her husband Hugh of Columbus, NC, grandchildren, Martha Porter of Coral Gables, FL; Ann Porter of Naples, FL, Marjorie Erb and her husband Kenny of Pittsburgh, PA, great-grandson, Porter Erb of Pittsburgh, sisters, Catherine Porter and Mary Ann Trice of Shelby, a brother, Bill Spangler and his wife Sue of Shelby, and a sister-in-law, Katherine Spangler of Shelby.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 9, 2007 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

FUNERAL: The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2007 in Webb Chapel of First Baptist Church. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.

BURIAL: Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
