Roger William Matheson Sr.

August 21, 1944 — July 3, 2017

SHELBY- Roger William “Big Roger” Matheson Sr., 72, died Monday, July 3, 2017, at his home. A native of Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Willy and Ruby Watson Matheson. Roger served in the Army during Vietnam, retired from Sunbeam after 35 years of service, and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.

PRECEDED: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Matheson

SURVIVED: He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Maria Matheson, of the home; daughter, Anitra McDaniel and husband Del of Shelby; sons, Roger “Little Roger” Matheson and wife Amy of Lawndale, and Moises Miranda of Gastonia; sister, Jeannie Gee and husband Rusty of Hickory; grandchildren, Morgan and Logan McDaniel, Little Roger Matheson III, Sean and Nathan Matheson, Kaylen Ledford, Elizabeth Morgan, Brooke and Matthew McDaniel, Celia and Miguel Miranda, and Linney Tyree; seven great-grandchildren, and his canine companion, Dolly.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends 5:30-7pm, Thursday, at the funeral home.

MEMORIAL SERVICES: Memorial services will be held 7pm, Thursday, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel, with military honors following

OFFICIATING: Rev. Henry Nichols will officiate
