Roy Leander Cooke

August 7, 1924 — August 30, 2018

SHELBY- Roy Leander Cooke, 94, died Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Burke County, he was the son of the late John and Delia Hudson Cooke. Roy served in the Army during WWII, and was a faithful member of Putnam Memorial Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for more than 40 years. He retired from Dover Textiles, later going to work at the Shelby Police Department.

PRECEDED: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Shytle Cooke; son, Randy Cooke; and sisters, Buna Crawley and Sarah Hunt.

SURVIVED: He is survived by his son, Steve Cooke of Connelly Springs, and Steve’s sister, Jennifer Caldwell of Startown; duaghter-in-law Diane Cooke of Hickory; grandchildren, Jesse Cooke, Chasity Caldwell, Leann Houser and Jonathan Cooke; and six great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL SERVICES: Funeral services will be held 11:30 am, Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park with military honor’s
