Ruth Willis Wesson

SHELBY- Mrs. Ruth Willis Wesson, 80, of 623 Leander Street, died Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late John and Lilly McSwain Hamrick. She retired after 30 years from Cleveland Regional Medical Center as a supervisor in the environmental department and was a member of Crestview Baptist Church. She had a love for her family as well as for gardening.

PRECEDED IN DEATH: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew “Bill” Willis, her second husband, Ben Wesson, and 8 brothers and sisters.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by a son, Mike Willis and his wife, Paula, of Shelby; a daughter, Marcia Rhodes and husband Than, of Morganton; a sister, Lela Blanton of Boiling Springs; five grandchildren, Bradley Willis and wife, Melanie, of Shelby, Lee Wood of Vermont, Dustin Wood of Waynesville, Brandon Willis of Shelby and Drew Rhodes of Morganton; and a great grandchild, Jackson Reid Willis of Shelby.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her son and his wife, Mike and Paula Willis, 349 Washburn Switch Rd. Shelby.

FUNERAL: The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Crestview Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

BURIAL: Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.

OFFICIATING CLERGY: The Revs. Stanley Webb and David Costner will officiate.

MEMORIALS: Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
