BOILING SPRINGS: Gregory Scott Franklin (or more affectionately known as “Scott) died peacefully and surrounded by family and friends in Shelby, North Carolina, on Monday, February 12, 2024, at the age of 60, following a fearless battle with brain cancer. During that time, his love for his family remained steadfast and his faith never wavered. The enduring optimism and kindness he maintained throughout offers us all an example of faith, hope, love, and courage.
Beloved by many and respected by all who had the privilege to know him, Scott’s example was merely the natural continuation of a life dedicated to providing for his family, serving his community, and being an active member of Hope Community Church. His commitment to the community spanned many years on the board of the United Way of Cleveland County and the board of Hospice Cleveland County. He was also a respected and valued colleague at NEG (formerly PPG), and the relationships he developed there became like a second family to him.
He was a problem solver by nature and skilled engineer by trade, who never met a challenge too big to tackle or a good cause for which he could not find the time to give of himself. A Christian, husband, father, colleague, soccer referee, and so much more (including, of course, a 1986 graduate of THE Ohio State University and proud Buckeye), his brilliance, generosity, reliability, commitment, and selflessness were ever present in all his many roles. We will all miss Scott dearly.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Elva and Ernest Franklin. He is survived by his loving wife, Amy, of 21 years, his son and daughter-in-law, Jonathon and Alyssa (Charlotte, NC), his brother, Gordon (Christy) Franklin (Nashport, OH), and sister, Gina Franklin (Duncan Falls, OH), all of whom he loved so much.
Visitation is Friday, February 16, from 6 to 8 pm at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service on Saturday, February 17, at 11 am at Hope Community Church in Shelby, NC. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of Cleveland County or Hope Community Church of Shelby, NC. Funeral services are entrusted to Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and Aquamation Center
