Steven Clay

SHELBY: Steven Kyle Clay, 32, went to be with his Lord Friday, September 1, 2023. A native of Cleveland County, he is the son of Christy Whisnant Clay of Shelby and the late Steven Clay. Steven was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and had a love for sports, especially the Carolina Panthers, fishing, racing and playing corn hole. He enjoyed playing the guitar and listening to music. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ben Barclift and Bill and Judy Whisnant; and his uncle, Joey Whisnant. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister, Samantha Clay of Shelby; grandmother, Kathy Barclift of Shelby; and cousins, Parker and Elliot Whisnant. Funeral services will be held 5:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Tim Sims officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home. A private burial will take in Sunset Cemetery.
