SHELBY- Sybol Clark Mauney, age 89, of Shelby, North Carolina peacefully passed away on May 11, 2024 at Atrium Health-Cleveland.
Sybol was the daughter of the late Hubert Johnson Clark and Essie Champion Clark. She grew up in Patterson Springs with a great community of family and friends she admired and adored, most of whom remained her friends throughout her entire life. She attended Number 3 High School before marrying the love of her life, Donald Guy Mauney, on June 30, 1951. She went on to work at Sears, Roebuck and Company for 34 years, retiring in 2005. Sybol enjoyed her career and considered many of her work colleagues as lifelong friends and confidants.
Sybol loved life and every single one of her family and friends. Among the things she enjoyed most were entertaining her family and friends with gatherings around the piano where they would sing her favorite hymns. She liked traveling with her family with a well-filled basket of snacks, listening to good music, singing in the choir and cooking for her family. She was faithful to her church and had a wonderful sense of humor and smile. Sybol was very proud of both of her daughters and always supported them in every way possible. She was the rock of her family and never missed an opportunity to express her feelings of love and gratitude toward those closest to her. Most importantly, Sybol had a deep relationship with God and was rooted in her faith to Jesus Christ. Her quiet faith was evident with anyone who met her as Sybol spoke the gospel through her actions and in the way she treated others with kindness and respect. Sybol was a lifelong member of Westwood Heights Baptist Church in Shelby.
In addition to her parents, Sybol was preceded in death by her late husband, Donald Guy Mauney; brother, Hubert Lee Clark; and sister, Betty Clark Wallace.
Sybol is survived by her two daughters, Lynn Mauney Davis and Lori Mauney Graham and son-in-law Bobby Graham; her grandchildren Brandon Davis and wife, LizBeth, Ashley Davis and friend Les Bolin, Thomas Graham and Lindsey Graham; her great-grandchildren, Scarlett Burns and Gavyn Bolin; sisters Jessie Clark Favell and Grace Clark Palmer; and many nieces and nephews to lovingly cherish her memory.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday May 14, 2024 at Westwood Heights Baptist Church with David Costner officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary. Interment, next to Don, will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby.
