Tavia Peterson

SHELBY-Octavia “Tavia” Burnette Peterson, 81, died Wed., Dec. 23, 2015, at Hospice of Wendover. A native of New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Lillian Mullinax Burnette.

PRECEDED: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Kathy Jenkins and Wanda Smith; grandchildren, Denise Mitchell and Tavia Cash; and brother, Alfred Nedgewick.

SURVIVED: She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Harold Peterson, of the home; son, Danny Peterson and wife Crystal of Shelby; daughters, Janice Mathis and husband Rev. Kevin Mathis of Kings Mountain, and Alecia Wright of Shelby; sisters, Teeny Davidson and Betty Jo Mullinax, both of Shelby; brothers, Loyd Jr. Mullinax and wife Linda of Ga., and Steve Mullinax and wife Eva of Grover; grandchildren, Robbie and Chad Bridges, Candie Lovelace, Josh Smith, Lacie Hoyle, Michael and David Peterson, Robbie Randall, Debbie Mathis, and Mandy Pearson; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Payton, Alyssa, Keylie, Kelsie, Karlie, Vangie, Dixie, Caroline, Sarah, Jacob, Lucas, Francis, Lisa, Anthony, Landon, Larissa, Storm, Bethany, and Orlin.

FUNERAL SERVICES: Funeral services will be held 2pm, Saturday, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends Saturday, 12:30-2pm, at the funeral home.

ENTOMBMENT: will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum

CLERGY: Rev. Kevin Mathis will officiate
