SHELBY-Vernie Morrison Morehead, age 100, passed away on Friday, Nov 21, 2014, surrounded by loving family at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC, after several months of declining health. Born in Shelby, NC, on October 16, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Emma Lowman Morrison of Shelby. She was the loving wife for 63 years of the late Julian Lee Morehead, Sr. She was the long-time administrative assistant for Morrison Construction Company in Shelby, and a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. The family wishes to express its appreciation to the staff of Stations 1 and 3 at NHC in Anderson, SC, for their loving, thoughtful care during Vernie's residence there. The family also wishes to thank the many dedicated staff members at the Rainey Hospice House for the excellent care given to Mrs. Morehead and her family.
PRECEDED: In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Julian Lee Morehead Jr.; son-in-law, William A. Hicks; and six brothers and sisters.
SURVIVED: Vernie is survived by her daughter, Ann Morehead Hicks of Anderson, SC; son, Craig Morrison Morehead and wife Evelyn of Shelby; daughter-in-law, Janice Morehead of Shelby; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL SERVICES: Sunday, 2:30pm, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel
VISITATION: The family will receive friends Sunday, 1-2:30pm, at the funeral home
BURIAL: A family burial will take place Monday, 1pm, at Cleveland Memorial Park Mausoleum
