KINGS MOUNTAIN- Mr. William “Bill” Gary Poteat, 70, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 22, 2010, at Kings Mountain Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Thomas and Arvie Poteat. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he retired from Lithium Corporation, and was owner/operator of Poteats Guns. He was a gunsmith and certified instructor in wildlife and concealed weapons. He was an avid deer hunter and participated in Cowboy Shoots with SASS.
PRECEDED: In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant sister, Toni Poteat.
SURVIVED: He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Nowlin Poteat; two daughters, Beth Bradley and husband Gary and Nina Willis and husband Steve, all of Shelby; son Mark Poteat and wife Laura of Fuquay-Varina; four grandchildren, Krystal Bradley Spurling, Jordan and Cassie Bradley, and Andy Willis; three great grandchildren, Ann Marie, Matthew, and Landon Spurling; sister Olene Griffin, of Morganton, brother Tommy Poteat and wife Ann of Seneca, SC; and his dog and faithful hunting companion, Ammo.
SERVICES: Monday, October 25, 2010, 3pm, at Zoar Baptist Church.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
At Bill’s request, there will be a private family ceremony for the scattering of his ashes in his favorite hunting spot.
